Dispatch 01Field robotics and autonomy

Claude on Mars

A planning system under hard constraints: long delays, physical risk, and human review before motion.

Claude helped JPL plan Perseverance rover drives, pushing verified route planning onto another planet.

This is one of the clearest examples of useful AI operating inside real physical constraints. JPL used Claude to help plan Perseverance rover drives, but the point is not autonomous theater. The point is better planning under delay, risk, and verification.

That makes it a strong Dispatch story because the machinery is legible. The rover is real. The environment is hostile. The loop still depends on checks, review, and careful execution before anything moves.

It is a quiet systems story in the best sense: not a chatbot demo, but a planning layer that becomes valuable when the cost of a wrong move is high.
